UNIVERSITIES' CUT OFF MARKS

UTME/JAMB candidates queue for screening before the examination at Model Secondary School, Maitama, in Abuja.

It is sad that we don’t face realities in this part of the world. There are many communities in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole where the population of public schools remains stagnant but pupils’ population is on the increase. It is quite laughable that the population of pupils continues to grow at a geometric rate while the population of schools built by the government is growing at an arithmetic rate.
The 180 cut-off mark for admission into the universities set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will never work as long as 100,000 candidates are seeking for admissions into a university meant for less than 9000 students.
They send their kids abroad and set high cut off marks for us over here, they do not expect us to be drop outs or something!...
